Basil is a common name for the culinary herb Ocimum basillicum and native to India, China, Southeast Asia and New Guinea. Sweet basil is prominently featured in Italian cuisine, while Thai Basil plays a major role in Southeast Asian cuisines of Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and the Taiwan cuisine.
